On June 7, 2026, a severe flood situation occurred due to excessive rainfall in Hechuan District of Chongqing Municipality, China Flood Disaster. Heavy rains that continued for several hours caused rivers, streams and waterways to overflow, leaving scenes of devastation in the entire area. Hechuan District is located at the confluence of three major rivers, making the risk of flooding even greater during heavy rains.
According to China Flood Disaster local reports, roads, bridges, fields, barns and many residential areas were submerged in water. Due to the strong current, many vehicles were washed away while in some areas people were forced to leave their homes and go to safe places. Relief and rescue operations were started by the administration, where the disaster relief team was busy in safely evacuating the trapped people. Due to heavy rain, electricity and communication services were also affected, creating a challenge in relief work from Jawana.

The Chongqing region has continued to experience extreme weather in recent months. Even in May 2026, there was huge loss of life and property due to heavy rains, landslides and flash floods in different districts of this municipality. Experts believe that the increase in extreme weather events in southwestern China is indicating the impact of climate change.
Due to the rapid rise of flood waters, traffic was completely disrupted in many areas. Schools, shops and small businesses should be temporarily closed. Farmers’ crops were also seriously affected, with fields being submerged in several feet of water. The local administration is busy assessing the damage while emergency teams are continuously working to deliver food, drinking water and essential items to the affected families.

The Meteorological Department has already warned that there may be more rain than normal in many parts of Southern China in the month of June. As China officially enters its annual flood season, experts predict heavy rainfall may continue in some areas throughout the coming week.
The flood in Hechuan district proved once again that even a modern city can become unsafe in the face of natural disaster. Relief agencies, local administration and volunteers came together to help the affected people. Logan is hopeful that the weather will improve and normal life can return to normal as soon as possible. At present, the entire area is in a state of alert and the administration is constantly monitoring the situation.
