The PM Modi Ganga Expressway Inauguration launched by Narendra Modi is considered a historic step for Uttar Pradesh today. The 594 km long expressway stretches from Meerut to Prayagraj and passes through a total of 12 districts. The project, which cost around βΉ36,230 crore, has been developed on a public-private partnership (PPP) model involving big companies like Adani and IRB. The government claims that the expressway will not only make travel easier, but also accelerate the economic development of the entire state.
The highlight of the expressway is that it also has an emergency airstrip, which can be used by the Indian Air Force if necessary. At the same time, several large bridges have been built on the rivers Ganga and Ramganga, which are considered to be quite important from an engineering point of view. EV charging stations, modern toll systems and flood-resistant design make this project even more special. According to the report, about 1.35 million trees have also been planted to help maintain the environmental balance.
In his address, Prime Minister Modi said the expressway would be the βnew lifelineβ of UP. According to him, this will not only reduce the city-village distance, but also create new opportunities for industry. Farmers in the Doab region in particular stand to benefit greatly, as they will now be able to transport their crops to the market quickly and easily. Lower logistics costs are likely to boost profits, strengthening the rural economy.
The construction of the PM Modi Ganga Expressway Inauguration started in 2021 and was completed within nearly five years, which is a major achievement in itself. Normally infrastructure projects this large are delayed, but in this case the timeline was pretty much followed. This also reflects India’s rapidly changing infrastructure capacity.
Experts believe the project could develop an industrial corridor in UP, which could create millions of jobs. Investment is expected to increase as the road network is strengthened. Also, tourism will be boosted, especially with easier access to religious sites in and around Prayagraj.

Overall, the expressway is not just a road, but a strong foundation for development. If the industrial cluster and logistics hub develops as planned, UP could become one of the fastest growing economies in the country. Although, some experts are also questioning the cost and environmental impact, the government claims that it has tried its best to strike a balance.
