Mumbai Metro Collapse Kills One: A structure at the Metro Line-4 site on LBS Marg collapsed, killing one and injuring three; MMRDA halted work, fined the contractor ₹5 crore, and the CM announced ₹5 lakh compensation.

A tragic accident took place on LBS Marg in Mumbai’s busy area at around 12:15 pm today. Mumbai Metro Collapse Kills One heavy structures suddenly collapsed at the site of the under-construction Metro Line-4 project near Pier P196, crushing one auto rickshaw and a Skoda SUV.

Witnesses say debris came down and fell with a loud noise, and people standing around immediately rushed to help. Within minutes, fire crews and rescue crews also arrived and began evacuating those trapped.

One person was killed and three others injured in the accident. The injured have been admitted to a nearby hospital, where doctors say they are all in a stable condition. Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis expressed deep condolences on the news of the accident.

He announced compensation of Rs 5 lakh to the family of the deceased and assured that the government would bear the full treatment expenses of the injured. The Chief Minister has taken the incident seriously and ordered a high-level inquiry.

The Mumbai Metro Collapse Kills One Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) took immediate action and halted the ongoing work at the site. The contractor concerned has been fined Rs 5 crore while the consultant company involved in the project was fined Rs 1 crore.

The authority stated that the cracking complained of earlier proved to be a misunderstanding due to the foam used in the construction, and had not affected the strength of the structure. However, the latest accident has once again raised questions about safety standards.

The Line-4 project, which runs from Wadala to Kasarawadwali, is considered crucial in view of Mumbai’s growing population and traffic problems. But constantly rising security concerns are creating fear among citizens. Experts say that with fast-paced urban development, strict monitoring and quality control is necessary, to prevent such accidents from happening again.
