Union Home Minister Amit Shah Big Bihar Promise on Sunday said that if the NDA comes back to power, it will free Bihar from floods. According to PTI, Shah said, “If the NDA comes to power, Bihar will be made flood-free. This is our promise.
We will set up a separate Amit Shah Big Bihar Promise to protect Bihar from floods.” He further said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi has planned to “use water from the Kosi, Ganga, and Gandak rivers for irrigation to farmers’ fields in Bihar.”
Floods affect millions of people in Bihar every year. Therefore, the promise of a “flood-free Bihar” is considered very electorally effective.

Amit Shah is the Union Minister of Home Affairs and Cooperation. The statement in his name means that support for this work has also been promised at the central government level.
Social Impact
Political Significance:
If this promise Amit Shah Big Bihar Promise is truly fulfilled, it could have a significant impact on society:
Farmers’ economic situation will improve: The annual damage to fields caused by floods will be stopped, which will increase crop yields and farmers’ incomes.
Improved Irrigation System: River water will be used for agriculture, reducing drought. Areas will also benefit.
Reduced migration due to floods: Millions of people are forced to flee their homes every year. If flood control is successful, people’s lives will become more stable.
Technical and Political Challenges
This goal is enormous, and it also poses some significant challenges:
- Geography: About 76% of Bihar’s area lies in the Ganga basin, which is naturally low-lying and waterlogged.
- Rivers originating in Nepal: Rivers like the Kosi and Gandak originate in Nepal. Flood control requires coordination with the Nepal governmentโwhich is not always easy.
- Status of old irrigation projects: Many canals and reservoirs are very old and need repair and modernization.
- Problems of funding and corruption: Such a large project requires billions of rupees, but corruption and slow planning pose major obstacles.
Possible Solutions and Steps
Then If this Amit Shah Big Bihar Promise is implemented seriously, it can be done. This could be done:

River Linking Scheme By linking rivers like the Kosi-Gandak and Gandak-Ganga, water can be used for irrigation in a balanced manner.
Dam and Reservoir Construction Modern dams can be built on the Nepal and Bihar border, which will help in water storage and flow control. Improving Drainage Systems Village drainage systems should be modernized.
Satellite Monitoring and Digital Equipment and Alarms or Displays to Reduce Damage from Disasters and Other Crises. Technological tools such as satellite data, sensors, and AI-based alert systems can be used to predict floods in advance.
Amit Shah Big Bihar Promise farmers must be involved in cooperative irrigation models: Farmers should be given participation in water distribution through cooperatives (as the โCooperativesโ section of Amit Shahโs ministry indicates).
