Unnao Rape Case: Supreme Court Blocks Bail, Kuldeep Sengar to Serve Life Sentence

The Supreme Court has stayed the Delhi High Court order granting bail to Unnao rape case convict Kuldeep Sengar, restoring his life imprisonment sentence.

Now Senger will not be able to get out of jail.

What does the Supreme Court say?

The Supreme Court said the case was of very special circumstances and therefore the High Court order was stayed. Until further notice, Senger will remain in jail.

The CBI argued in the Supreme Court that the Delhi High Court had wrongly suspended the sentence, which was against the law.

The CBI says Sengar committed a serious crime against the minor girl, and he was a public servant, so he should get a harsher punishment.

Comment of the Supreme Court

The Chief Justice said there should be no political pressure on the judiciary.

He also said that High Court judges do not sit in an β€œivory tower”, which means that every decision must be treated with respect.

Victim and family reaction

The victim welcomed the Supreme Court’s decision and said she wanted the harshest punishment, even the death penalty, for Sengar.

Senger family reaction

Sengar’s daughter said on social media that the family is living in fear, but still hopes for justice.
