The scheme claims to provide facilities like old pensions and is seen as a big step towards ending the demands of government employees for years. According to political pundits, the decision is an attempt to strengthen the government’s image and present an example of welfare policy to voters.

At the same time, a new and powerful face has emerged in the oppositionβ€”film actor-turned-leader Vijay and his party β€œTamilga Vetri Kazhagam (TVK)”.

Vijay made it clear that the 2026 elections would be a direct battle between DMK and TVK. He declared himself as the chief ministerial candidate and made it clear that there would be no alliance with either the DMK or the BJP. Vijay’s strategy is to contest the elections alone with full force.

Naam Tamil Kazhagam (NTK) leader Seemen, attacked both the DMK and the AIADMKβ€”saying that the two parties were β€œpartners in the same crime” and had failed to bring about structural changes. The AIADMK, meanwhile, is also formulating its strategy and stepping up its election campaign with women-centric promises and public interest issues.
