Today, Corruption in BJP Governments term βdouble engine governmentβ is in the spotlight across the country. The Bharatiya Janata Party claims that where there is a single party government at the Center and in the State, development happens faster.
But the Opposition, especially the Congress and other parties, are directly accusing the same model of ruining the lives of the people by this βcorrupt double engine governmentβ.

Now the question arisesβis this just political rhetoric, or is there some solid basis and evidence behind it?
As for Corruption in BJP Governments, the international organization Transparency International releases the Corruption Perception Index every year. India’s rank in the index has fallen in the last few years. In 2023, India was ranked 93rd out of 180 countries.
This report does not directly prove corruption, but it does indicate a worsening of the βperceptionβ of corruption in the government system. The opposition attacks the government on the basis of these figures.
The second issue is related to the life of the common manβinflation, unemployment and economic pressure. Although government figures talk about GDP growth, the truth is that the daily expenditure of the common man has increased.
Petrol and diesel, gas cylinders, pulses and vegetablesβall have become expensive. The question of unemployment among the youth is still serious. The Opposition claims that the double engine government is only benefiting the big industrialists while the common people are struggling.
However, the government rejects the allegations outright. The BJP says the country is one of the fastest growing economies in the world, with millions of people benefiting from infrastructure, digital systems and social schemes. According to the government, the Opposition’s allegations are only part of electoral politics.

The truth is that while it may be an exaggeration to say that βlives have been ruined all over the countryβ, it is also true that public dissatisfaction with issues such as perceptions of corruption, inflation and employment has increased. For this reason, the double engine government model is being questioned.
The conclusion is clearβthis case is neither entirely false nor entirely proven. The public should look beyond political speeches to independent reports, economic data and the ground truth. In a democracy, asking questions is not a crime, but a necessity.
