Calcutta High Court Fencing Order: Bengal Border Delay Exposed

Calcutta High Court fencing order slams Bengal for delaying land needed for India–Bangladesh border security. HC warns zero tolerance and seeks report in one week.

Calcutta High Court fencing order 2,216-km border between West Bengal and Bangladesh stretches, but about 600 km of it remains open today. The open border posed years of infiltration, smuggling, counterfeit notes, drugs and weapons.

Even when the Center repeatedly demanded from the state government to provide land for fencing, there were delays. The delay left the security forces frustrated and the border area insecure. On this situation, the Calcutta High Court itself now intervened and inquired from the State Government as to why the land required for national security was not given in time.

The court’s clear message: Politics doesn’t work anymore

Calcutta High Court fencing order made it clear in the hearing that there is no bigger issue than security. The tone of the court was stark. The court said the fencing at the border meant a compromise on the country’s defence. Politics, delays, paper games or any administrative excuses will no longer be accepted in securing the border. Finally, the court gave only one week to the state government to submit a full report and clarify the situation, otherwise the court itself would take further action.

The order sent a message across the country that security issues are no longer caught in the trap of politics. The security forces, the central government and the judiciary are standing in line.

The open border increased the security crisis

Open areas on the Bangladesh border not only disrupt law and order, but also increase the threat to the entire country. Infiltration is now a daily concern. Traffickers openly trade in animal smuggling, narcotics, weapons and counterfeit notes. At night, BSF personnel often face gang attacks, stoning and clashes. Villagers along the border also feel insecure. A farmer working in the field is startled by the sound at night. Women find it difficult to leave their homes. The open border has destabilized the entire region.

If the fencing is completed, it will immediately curb intrusions, strengthen surveillance and restore security and peace to the lives of locals.

Fencing makes transformation possible

Fencing is not just wiring, but a reorganization of the entire security mechanism. Fencing will make it easier to monitor every movement, cameras and sensors will strengthen night operations. Patrolling of BSF personnel will be easier. The routes currently used for smuggling will be closed after the fencing. The security of the locals will be increased, crime will be reduced and the work of the administration will be smooth.

Every country in the world keeps its borders secure. For a vast country like India, it becomes even more important. The Bengal part in particular was always sensitive, so the delay in the fencing work was a matter of concern for the whole country.

Questions raised on state government, court directives decisive

Many times it was heard that work was stopped due to panchayats, land acquisition, lengthy paperwork, or political opposition. But the High Court has made it clear that the delay in the security project is not justified for any reason. If BSF, central government and security agencies are unanimously calling for fencing, why the delay in allocating land?

The state government is now under pressure after the court’s remarks. If he delays now, it will go directly against the court directive. This has raised hopes that the fencing work will now accelerate.

Border secure, country secure

Security could never be compromised. It means having strong bordersβ€”controlling crime, stopping smuggling, stopping infiltration, keeping law and order in order, soldiers safe, and citizens secure. The Calcutta High Court’s decision is a historic step for the security strategy of not only Bengal, but the whole of India. Now, there is hope that the negligence at the border will come to a complete halt.

Security of Indiaβ€”is the honor of India. The court has also made it clear that the fencing work has not stopped and there will be no compromise on national security.
