Andhra Pradesh Police Action at Temple Sparks Outrage as Devotees Face Lathi Charge

Andhra Pradesh police action at temple in Srisailam saw Shiva Mala Dharana devotees lathi charged, raising serious questions on temple safety and governance.

Police lathi charge on devotees of Lord Shiva during the TDP government in Andhra Pradesh Police Action at Temple is a very sad and shameful incident. The devotees who came to Srisailam temple wearing Shiva garlands were only there to perform pujas and fasts, but they were treated like criminals. Those who once walked with faith and devotion, today the same people are feeling afraid when going to the temple.

Earlier, during the Shivratri season, devotees had time to relax for several days. Now the government has reduced this time to just seven days. The administration knew in advance that millions of devotees would come, yet drinking water, shade, line arrangements and medical facilities were not provided properly.

Old men, children and women stood in the sun for hours. When the devotees got angry and shouted slogans against the government, instead of finding a solution to the problem, the police fired batons. The devotees who came to the court of God were beaten.

This is not the first time such negligence has occurred in temples. In the year 2025, there were several major temple accidents. On January 8, 2025, six devotees were killed in a stampede at the Tirumala Venkateshwara temple in Tirupati during Vaikuntha Ekadashi. This happened for the first time in the history of TTD.

On April 30, 2025, seven devotees were killed when a substandard wall collapsed during the Chandan Utsav at Simhachalam temple. Then on November 1, 2025, nine people were killed in a stampede at the Kasibugga Venkateshwara Swamy temple on Kartik Ekadashi.

Even after so many major incidents, the TDP government has not made any substantial reforms. Every time it is just rhetoric, propaganda and later investigations, but no one takes responsibility.

Now, temples are also becoming a field of politics. Even sacred offerings like Tirumala laddu are being dragged into politics, hurting the sentiments of crores of devotees.

When Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu and Deputy Chief Minister Pawan Kalyan talk about Sanatan Dharma, but remain silent on the lashings and humiliation of devotees, people are legitimately askingβ€”who will take responsibility for the devotees?
