A very tragic incident has emerged from the city of Laredo, Texas, where the bodies of six people were found inside a rail boxcar. It happened at the Union Pacific rail yard near the U.S.-Mexico border. According to police, a railway employee found several people unconscious inside the boxcar while conducting a routine check at around 3 pm on Sunday. Police and fire departments later arrived and confirmed all six were dead. Initial reports said the dead included five men and one woman.

The incident reminds people of the horrific accident of 2022, when 53 migrants were found dead inside a truck in Texas. Thousands of people risk their lives to travel along the U.S.-Mexico border in search of a better life. Sometimes smugglers hide people in closed containers, trucks and train compartments, but the heat, lack of water and lack of oxygen cause major accidents.
People are also expressing deep sorrow over the incident on social media. Several users on Reddit wrote that conditions inside an enclosed boxcar in temperatures over 95Β°F can be dire. Some also said that the train boxcar is locked from the outside and the person trapped inside cannot get out easily.
Laredo Mayor Dr. Victor Trevino also released a statement saying this is a very sad hour for the entire community. He expressed his condolences to the families of the deceased and thanked the emergency team.
