A major step has been taken against corruption in the state of Karnataka. Lokayukta raids in Karnataka police on Thursday raided 29 places simultaneously in four districts. The raid was against government engineers, who are accused of adding wealth many times over their income.

The investigation revealed that a total of more than Rs 23 crore was recovered. The property is said to be associated with four engineers. They worked in the Department of Public Works, Department of Education, Department of Electricity and Department of Land Records.

The most talked about name is Executive Engineer Purushottam Das Hegde. According to the investigating agency, he was found in possession of assets worth around Rs 12.84 crore. This includes houses, land, gold and silver and other valuables.

The second big name is Superintendent Engineer H.S. M.Sc. of Janardan. Assets worth Rs 5.77 crore have been recovered against him. During the investigation, Rs 1.70 crore in cash was recovered from the flat of a friend, which was the most shocking thing.

The Lokayukta raids in Karnataka police are still continuing to investigate all documents, bank accounts and transactions. Officials are looking into where the assets came from and whether or not they were earned from legitimate income.

A case has been registered under the Prevention of Corruption Act, If the investigation proves the allegations to be true, then the officers concerned may be fired, arrested, and property may be confiscated.
